Our journey toward carbon and waste neutrality.

Hi, my name is Holger, and I am the CEO of The Bag Broker. The pictures above shows me on a journey; that day my journey was a short jaunt into nature. I have always been a traveler.

I left my native Denmark at the age of 22, and when 30, I embarked on the immense journey, launching The Bag Broker has become. There has always been a streak of curiosity in me, and that is trait I try to keep alive. I not only want to keep it alive, I also try to actively instill it into my children, so they can embark on as amazing journeys as I have been lucky enough to do.

To be able to do that, however, we are faced with a huge challenge. The way we humans have been treating the planet since the start of the industrial revolution brings into danger not just our journeys, but also the very existence of us as a species.

If we are to avoid that outcome, a new journey awaits all of us. The journey toward a waste and carbon neutral future, and this is a journey our team at The Bag Broker and myself are embarking on now. If we are to travel, we are to travel right, so we have established a clear goal:

  • By the year 2023 all products sold by this company will be required to be recyclable
  • By the year 2025, all products sold by this company will be made through a carbon neutral value chain, with recycled materials and be recyclable themselves.

We split this process in two.

First of all, we want to remove the carbon from our supply chain, this will happen through first understanding where we are now, how much each step we or our suppliers and partners cost in emitted CO2, and secondly that we try to reduce the CO2 emitted in the delivery of our products and services to your door. This requires changing the way we do business and offsetting the carbon footprint we cannot reduce. Starting from this year, we will minimize all carbon emissions emitted by our internal processes and offset the rest. Every business process, the way to visit our customers, the way we illuminate our offices, the way we get to and from work, the way we transport the bags from our manufacturing sites to you, it all will be evaluated with the sole objective of bringing down our carbon footprint. What we cannot minimize, we will offset by buying certified carbon offsets from reputable sources. Initially, we will offer an independently verified carbon neutral bag to every customer who now desires this solution, so we can assist you in becoming carbon neutral yourself. If you prefer to buy offsets in projects closer to your heart, we will provide you whenever you buy a product from us with an exact breakdown of the carbon emissions emanating from the production and delivery of the bag, thus allowing you complete visibility when you invest in your offsets.

Further, we will document and verify our quest, and we will ensure that where we start, where we are, and what we have achieved is available right here, so you can monitor our progress, see what we do, and that you are able to follow us and hopefully join us on this journey toward carbon neutrality.

On the product side, we will from now on focus on recyclability and also on using recycled materials where food safety regulations make this feasible. The technology is less developed, however we are building internal structures ensuring that we will offer you the least waste generating solution first, and we will ourselves invest in the research and development ensuring a fast roll-out of waste minimizing solutions.
